We stand in Solidarity with the Indigenous People

The fight for self-determination of our Indigenous Cultural Communities (ICC)/Indigenous People (IP) has never ceased to be relevant and still continue to this day. Opposing armed groups found their way to the ancestral domain, as a consequence, they are aggressively recruited, or if not, became hostage of armed combatants. This situation is immensely far-reaching as the movement has destroyed the lives of the ICC/IP.

In condemning these activities, the NIA Caraga stands in solidarity with the ICC/IP by signing a manifesto in support to the En Banc Resolution of National Commission on Indigenous People (NCIP). The Ceremonial Signing of Manifesto was held in NIA Conference Room, Bancasi, Butuan City on November 26, 2021.

During his message, Acting Regional Manager June Nathaniel S. Plaza said that the government is trying its best to give our ICC’s/IP’s equal opportunities to be educated, to participate in the decision-making process of their respective communities and empower them by giving them responsibilities in the community thus giving them a socially inclusive life.

RM Plaza likewise stated in order for our ICC’s/IP’s brothers and sisters not to be radicalized, they should be educated and be included in all activities in the community. He further encouraged everybody to be patient with our ICC’s/IP’s as they come from a different background and culture.

The ceremony was attended by NIA Caraga AFD Manager Evelyn C. Encarnado, Division Acting EOD Manager Rosalina B. Caiña, SDS IMO Manager Dexter A. Sablaon, ADS Acting IMO Manager Peter A. Pablo, ASDI IMO Manager Adeline H. Manlunas, Satellite Head Susan D. Lariba, Attorney IV Reggie T. Mag-usara and selected NIA Regional Office personnel.
