NIA-Caraga continues to demonstrate its commitment to empower the local farming community by establishing a direct and efficient farm-to-consumer food supply chain to profit more from selling agri-products directly to the local community in support to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s flagship initiative of "Katuwang sa Diwa at Gawa para sa Masaganang Ani at Mataas na Kita" (KADIWA) through Department of Agriculture (DA). NIA supports this endeavor and is committed to contribute towards achieving a rice sufficient nation, thereby eradicating hunger and alleviating poverty simultaneously through its theme "NIA at BBM (Bagong Bayaning Magsasaka) Tungo sa Makabagong Pilipinas"
Priority consumers are from sectors of Senior Citizens, Persons with Disability (PWDs), beneficiaries of 4P’s (Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program), Indigenous Peoples (IPs) and Solo Parents, who can now purchase the Php 29.00 per kilo of hybrid rice at minimum of 10 kilograms (daily) at NIA CANTIS KADIWA retail outlet, Madrid, Surigao del Sur. A total of 300 bags (10 kilos per bag) were produced and sold to them, resulting in an equivalent sales value of Php 87,000 pesos. Consumers are exceedingly grateful and satisfied since they can now buy rice at a 50% reduced price from the local market.
Regional Manager Ruby C. Tuan, Jr. emphasized during his message that the government wanted to showcase to the community through the guidance of NIA Administrator Engr. Eduardo Eddie G. Guillen regarding the importance of this program and expressed his sincere gratitude to all the participating local farmers and the federation president of CAMFIA for their hard work and commitment throughout this journey.
NIA Central Office Institutional Development Division headed by Ms. Maricel M. Del Rosario and her key personnel, NIA Caraga management led by RM Tuan, Surigao del Sur IMO Division Manager Adeline H. Manlunas along with her key staff, officers & members of Cantilan-Madrid Federation of Irrigators Association (CAMFIA) and LGUs representatives graced and officially opened the said activity.
