As NIA marks its 60th Anniversary, NIA-Caraga, headed by Regional Manager June Nathaniel S. Plaza, together with Regional Irrigation Office Management and Agusan del Norte-Surigao del Norte-Dinagat Islands (ASDI)-IMO Personnel, successfully conducts its tree-planting activity with the theme “Tao, Agrikultura at Kalikasan Para sa Progresibong Kaunlaran”. This event annually takes place all throughout the country during the month of June.
RM Plaza emphasized in his message, that the CONVERGENCE of various national government agencies (NGAs) in Caraga region continues which can be observed through their engagement and participation in today’s activity.
About 400 seedlings of dwarf coconut trees provided by Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA)-Caraga and 200 fire tree seedlings were planted at Lower Agusan River Pump Irrigation (LARPIS), Brgy. Bit-os, Butuan City in an effort to support the irrigators/farmer beneficiaries in the said location. In the span of three years, the dwarf coconut seedlings will begin bearing fruit, which shall serve as a good long-term investment for them.
Meanwhile, in the next five years, the fire tree seedlings will mature into magnificent ornamental trees, transforming this site into a popular tourist destination which shall give the residents of Brgy. Bit-os a new source of income- local tourism.
At the tree-planting site were also representatives from Philippine National Police (PNP) Butuan City Police Station, Department of Agriculture (DA)-Caraga and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-Caraga.
