A total of 20 Irrigator's Association (IA) attended the today's ongoing meeting spearheaded by NIA-Caraga Regional Manager June Nathaniel S. Plaza. The present IAs consist of 11 from TAGO River Irrigation System and 9 from Communal Irrigation Systems.

The individual feedbacks from farmers will help identify the specific issues and concerns pertaining to their actual ground experiences on the operation of NIA’s existing infrastructures as the production of their rice is dependent to the quality of the water irrigation services they have availed.

RM Plaza guaranteed to the IAs that their concerns will be prioritized and explicitly provide short and long-term remedies to all issues raised.
He also convinced them to avail various programs offered by NGAS such as DA, DPWH, BFAR, PCA, CDA as result of the Convergence in order to increase means of living.

Zestful to help Agsurnons, Regional Manager June Nathaniel S. Plaza continues to consolidate all of the challenges farmers/irrigators have in common. Immersing at the grassroots level had provided a gain for a comprehensive understanding of the various issues they are facing. Majority of the problems pinpointed were existing & operational NIA infrastructures that are either in need of repair, restoration or rehabilitation and the inaccessibility of the necessary equipment to be used for desilting & dredging such as backhoe.

RM Plaza is optimistic to resolve all of the concerns and hereby stated to the farmers that their issues will be catered and a timely response shall be provided to them. He even guaranteed that anytime, any of their complaints whether urgent or not can be addressed directly and even encouraged them to stay involved with NIA so that it could fulfill its mandate in helping the IAs in improving their means of living and would ceaselessly bridge them with other line government agencies in order to avail their free services and programs that will increase revenue.

SECTORAL COORDINATION MEETING FOR 15 IRRIGATOR’S ASSOCIATION (IA) UNDER THE MUNICIPALITIES OF SAN AGUSTIN, MARIHATAG, CAGWAIT AND BAYABAS, SURIGAO DEL SUR.

Transcending beyond NIA’s mandate, with the goal of becoming a rice-sufficient region, NIA-Caraga Regional Manager June Nathaniel S. Plaza with the assistance of Operation and Maintenance Section Chief, Engr. Melina I. Horserada and Surigao del Sur Irrigation Management Office (IMO) and Regional Management Personnel, successfully conducted two sectoral coordination meetings in the Province of Surigao del Sur.

In the morning, 7 IAs under the municipalities of San Agustin and Marihatag convened at Subangan ng Hubo Kamayo IA Hall, Brgy. Oteiza, San Agustin, Surigao del Sur, and in the afternoon, 8 IAs under the municipalities of Cagwait and Bayabas convened at Brgy. Gymnasium, Cagbaoto, Bayabas, Surigao del Sur.

Identified concerns include issues with water irrigation management and damaged infrastructure that needs budget allocation for repair and restoration. Engr. Horserada assured the IA farmer members that their concerns and issues would be taken into account at the regional level and emphasized that NIA also seeks cooperation with irrigation associations (IAs) in the operation and maintenance of its irrigation systems. The meeting provided meaningful discussion as it specifically identified all major issues to help prepare the prioritization of the Program of Work (POW) for CY 2024.

SURIGAO CITY IRRIGATORS PRODUCERS COOPERATIVE'S PRE-MEMBERSHIP EDUCATION SEMINAR

Cooperative concepts and activities can help people age and flourish by enhancing their living standards and boosting their freedom and financial independence. It is a method of overcoming personal challenges because relying simply on one's own resources is insufficient to address the widespread issue of poverty.

The National Irrigation Administration, ASDI IMO Surigao del Norte, through Institutional Development Officers (IDO) under the direction of SDN Satellite Head Engr. Susan D. Lariba with the supervision of the Regional Manager Engr. June Nathaniel S. Plaza, initiated to create awareness that a prospective member of a primary cooperative must have a completed Pre-Membership Education Seminar as a requirement for cooperative registration with the Cooperative Development Authority (CDA).

On May 22, 2023, held at Almont Beach Resort, the newly organized Surigao City Irrigators Producers Cooperative attended the Pre-Membership Education Seminar (PMES) with resource speaker Ms. Annabelle E. Madrio, a Provincial Coop Development Specialist.
Surigao City Irrigators Producers Cooperative, composed of nine (9) Irrigators Associations, namely Danao Soyok IA, Surigao IA, Mabini Tugonan IA, Upper Lower Anomar FIA, Trinidad Km 13 IA, Caplayan IA, Cabongbongan IA, and Mat-i IA, is the first IA Cooperative assisted by the National Irrigation Administration Caraga and is soon to be one of the pilot IA Cooperatives in the entire province of Surigao del Norte and Dinagat Islands.

The National Irrigation Administration of Agusan del Sur Irrigation Management Office (IMO) witnessed the Training Induction Program of the TESDA scholars

The National Irrigation Administration of Agusan del Sur Irrigation Management Office (IMO) witnessed the Training Induction Program of the TESDA scholars consisting of 12 sons of Irrigators Association (IA) farmer members who have availed the scholarship grant as a visible outturn of the commitment made by TESDA during the IA Forum conducted last April 12, 2023. As of now, there are 11 carpentry and 1 tile setting farmer student. Carpentry practical class will take for 38 days while tile setting runs for 15 days only.

Students will receive allowance of 160 pesos per day, 50% will be released in 2 to 3 weeks upon classes start. Allan S. Millan, the TESDA Provincial Director, imparted his message of encouragement to the students to take this opportunity to continue and persevere to avail the government programs in order to compete with the local and national job opportunities through equipping them with skills provided by the Agency. He also recognized the effort made by NIA on bringing the TESDA program in the midst of the farmer’s organizations.

In relation to this, NIA-Caraga continues its target of uplifting the lives of the farmers family by bridging them with other line government agency offering various programs and services that will help them earn additional income . This intervention performed by NIA and collaboration with TESDA shall also address the technical competencies of the sons, daughters and family members of farmers for them to land jobs that will improve their standard of living.

NIA- Caraga is optimistically driven by a principle of Servant Leadership, that brings opportunity in a door way of IA farmer members and let them understand the purpose of this activities. NIA Caraga and NIA-ADS IMO as a whole, under the leadership of Regional Manager June Nathaniel S. Plaza will continue to embrace the strength and the great potentials that the Convergence can possibly make in the lives of the farmers in the region as it shall not undermine the cooperation among all relevant interested parties, which will raise every farmers' economic condition.

NIA- Caraga Regional Manager June Nathaniel S. Plaza, in coordination with Agusan del Sur- Irrigation Management Office (IMO) Manager, Peter E. Pablo & key personnel, leads the conduct of Gibong River Irrigation System TSAG Coordination Meeting to further scrutinize the status of existing NIA services as well as the concerns and issues associated with those services being provided to Agsurnon farmers.

During the course of the engagement, cited issues were: 1) Repair of irrigation facilities 2) Request of drainage and 3) IA Hall. RM Plaza expedited to IAs that appropriate short and long-term solutions will be specifically provided to each issue as all of their complaints are being treated as urgent.

The discussion between NIA and IA farmer members shall provide baseline information that will be beneficial to both parties. NIA will realize its goal of providing effective and efficient irrigation systems and services to IAs in line with the present administration’s food self-sufficiency target, and on the other hand, IAs shall attain increase on their agricultural productivity.

SECTOR COORDINATION MEETING WITH 33 IAS FROM BUTUAN CITY, CABADBARAN CITY AND MUNICIPALITY OF MAGALLANES AT COCO GROOVE GARDEN, BAAN, BUTUAN CITY.

To strengthen the Agricultural backbone of this region, which plays a vital role in our economy, NIA-Caraga Regional Manager June Nathaniel S. Plaza went an extra mile to improve the quality of the services provided by the agency to the farmer members of Irrigator’s Association (IA) by organizing a sectoral coordination meeting with the help of Assistant Division Manager, Danilo G. Yamis of ASDI-IMO, Institutional Development Officers and Community Relations Assistants.

During the meeting, farmers were given time to communicate of what their thoughts, ideas, and concerns relative to NIA’s services provided to them, as they are well-versed with the operational and ground-level issues. Making it a vital venue for evaluation from wide variety of emerging issues that shall be used by NIA to further improve the irrigation services being offered to them.

All of the presented questions by the farmers were scrutinized and answered carefully which led to a positive engagement between NIA and the IA farmer members present.

IAs were also informed of the upcoming free training, with 3 minimum participants per IA, would soon be held covering the “Basics of using computer” with existing working desktop or laptop which shall help each IA in preparing pertinent documents that might be needed by NIA, SEC or other government agencies.

TSAG Coordination Meeting with 18 IA's under LARPIS

To address most frequent issues and concerns raised by Irrigator's Association (IA) farmer members, a Turn-out Service Area Group (TSAG) Coordination Meeting for Lower Agusan River Pump Irrigation (LARPIS) is convened today at NIA-ASDI IMO Conference Hall, Ambago, Butuan City.

The effort to engage upon the grassroots level is headed by Regional Manager June Nathaniel S. Plaza through NIA-ASDI IMO and NIA Caraga Regional Staff.

Every present IA farmer member has been given the equal opportunity to be heard as they can ask questions relative to their area of coverage which mostly are unresolved water irrigation and damaged infrastructure services since they continue to manage their respective ricefields, serving as its stewards.

Information obtained today will help NIA to provide short and long-term solutions to existing irrigation issues to better serve entire farmers of Caraga.

The National Irrigation Administration (NIA)-Caraga under the leadership of Regional Manager June Nathaniel S. Plaza, through its Institutional Development Unit (IDU) had shown full support for the success of Department of Agriculture (DA)-Caraga’s Technology Demonstration and Distribution of Hybrid Seeds to Kamalaka Irrigators Association (IA).

The initial delivery of Hybrid Seeds was taken from DA’s techno-demo allocation of 2,500 bags on top of its regular allocation to cope with the initial water delivery for 2nd rice cropping which started last May 01, 2023. The total regular allocation for hybrid seeds this year is 15,000 bags and 60 percent is allocated for this cropping.

About 100 sacks of Hybrid Seeds were distributed to thirty-five (35) farmer members of Kamalaka IA which include package of 2 sacks of complete fertilizer, 1-liter of Foliar fertilizer & Bio-N for every sack of hybrid rice.

Also, Gamut IA and Binati IA of of Municipality of Tago, Surigao del Sur received 100 bags of different varieties of high-breed rice seeds.
