NIA CIS and NIS Irrigators Consultative Meeting
On April 4, 2022, the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Caraga, led by Regional Manager, June Nathaniel S. Plaza and Atty. Reggie T. Mag-usara, Legal Officer held a Consultative Meeting with IA for NIA-Agusan del Norte Communal Irrigation System (CIS) and National Irrigation System (NIS) at the Pavillion Convention, Butuan City to discuss the issues surrounding pre-mature and illegal land conversion.
The goal of the activity is to help the Irrigators’ Associations (IAs) that have been impacted by these conversions in preventing their agricultural land to be converted to commercial or residential use without agencies’ permission. The premature or illegal conversion affects the livelihood of the farmers as well as the rice production. To date, the office has identified a total of 112 hectares of irrigable land.
During the forum, NIA management answers the farmers' questions and assures them that the office will continue to pursue this effort until these unlawful actions are stopped. Through coordination with the other agencies primary responsible for the land conversion, the farmers and the land owners will be guided by the policies and processes in converting lands.
The said activity was participated in by Brgy. Local Government Units (BLGUs), Irrigators’ Associations (IAs), Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), NIA Regional Office, NIA ASDI IMO and other stakeholders.
